How did Gandhi resist totalitarian states
Mohandas Gandhi
led India's independence movement in the 1930s and 40s by speaking softly without carrying much of a big stick, facing down the British colonialists with stirring speeches and non violent protest. Gandhi fought totalitrain states by using both ethics and intelligence.Gandhi developed satyagraha into a national movement, stressing passive resistance, nonviolent disobedience, boycotts and, on occasion, hunger strikes. He became so well known and respected, that he gained influence with both the general public and the British rulers. For example, in 1939, by a combination of fasting and satyagraha, Gandhi was able to compel several states, that were ruled by princes, to grant democratic reforms. Not only could he unify the many diverse elements of the Indian National Congress, he was able to force political concessions from the British by threatening to fast until death. Gandhi is remembered not only as a political leader, but as a moralist who appealed to the universal conscience of mankind.
Video relevant to 1984 on cbc
Birth of Big Brother
I found this video and audio very relevant to 1984, in the novel the author was showing a country that was being watched by big brother everyday. In today's world we are being watched by the police by camera's in banks, schools, resturants, stores, apartment bulidings and so on. In the book 1984 citizens where being watched by the tele screen, in today's modern day world we are being watched but most citizens dont realize we are being watched.
how police use electronic devices to trak people
Modern day police now use the internet, cellphones, Gps to track people. Every one uses social medai and we post our information on the internet, which at any given time can be used to track individuals by the police. Mordern day police have accounts with social medai, e.g facebook and twitter, if there is a missing person investigation have became very easy to track the missing and the abductor. Most people don't realize that we are being watched all the time hence some people post uncalled for information vai text messege or social medai which in the end the police use this as evidence of a crime. Police actually go on facebook and twitter to look for criminals and a lot of unlawful characters have been traked using these devices. Police can also use the GPS to track your whereabouts.

The four infomus historical totalitarain leaders
The four infomus historical totalitarain leaders
I have considered him for this post because he an example of a dictator who ruled with an iron feast for forty two years. His forty one year leadership prior to the uprising made him the fourth longest serving non royal leader since 1900, as well as the longest serving Arab leader. He killed innocent lives his government conducted executions and mutilations of political opponents in public and he broadcasted recordings of the proceedings on public television. Dissent was illegal under Law seventy five of 1973, which limited freedom of expression, and opposition was met with violence.
Saddam Hussein ruled Iraq
I have considered Mr Hussien in this post because he is a example of an abusive leader who held on to power since 1979-2003. Saddam was notable for terror against his own people, "murdered as many as a million of his people, many with poison gas. He tortured, maimed and imprisoned countless more. His unprovoked invasion of Iran is estimated to have left another million people dead.
Idi Amin
Amin Idi , was the president of Uganda from 1971 to1979, also known as Idi Amin Dada. His brutality and disregard for the rule of law led to hundreds of thousands of deaths and plunged the country into chaos and poverty. Amin's rule has many lasting negative consequences for the future of Uganda. His abuse has led to low regard for human life and personal security, widespread corruption, and the disruption of economic production and distribution.

The Mugabe Regime
Robert Mugabe is the president of Zimbabwe (Rhodesai), he has been holding power since April 18 1980. As one of the leaders of the liberation movement against white minority rule, he was elected into power thirty years ago. After he got into power, life became promising for the black Rhodesain, he erased all the abuse and unfairness that existed when the white man was ruling. Before he got elected black people where not allowed to, eat or dine with a white man. There was no education for the coloured people no health care; to name a few, but all this changed when he became president. It meant everyone was equal, education and health care for all, he became the voice and father for all black Rhodesians. By becoming the president it meant that Zimbabwean's could now be free in their own country without being oppressed. He changed the country and it became a well respected nation, once voted the most liveable country in the world. In a matter of decades it became the bread basket of Africa, and Zimbabweans (Rhodesains) where once ranked the most educated poeple in Africa. I attended elementary school in Zimbabwe and l must say looking back it was well advanced.
But with all this beauty that he created thirty years ago, he built it all to watch it fall and he still clings to power to this date. Once the bread basket of Africa; Zimbabwe rallies on Westren aid to feed its people, there is so much starvation, no health care no education it has became the poorest country and has been ranked the worst country to live in. He feeds his citizens with propaganda, he tells the "citizens the white people want to steal our country."He claims he has to stay in power inorder to fight the white man. If anyone opposes his party they are killed in broad day light. There is only one television station in the whole country and all foreign medai was banned, his pary ZanuPF conrol''s what people watch and read. He rules with an iron fist and refuses to step down from power, he denys that there is hunger and femine in the country.Foriegn medai is allowed in Zimbabwe only to report the beautiful parts of the country and he makes them flim the 2 % of people who are living in luxury.
Once oppressed by the white man, Mugabe has became worser than the oppresser he delivered his citizens from independence only to lead them to bondage.

When The Storm Comes Around
should you find yourself at the captains helm
as everyone around you is jumping ship
do not lose your stride
dont miss a step
because I will be right beside you braving the storm
as the cruel dark clouds loom just above the bow
and the torrential rains begin to fall
your nerves may get the best of you
but that is perfectly natural.
all you must do is reach out and take my hand
I will calm those panicked thoughts causing your mind to spin
I will stand at your side through hurricane force winds
and together we’ll be able to keep our footing.
though life may attempt to send up to the ocean depths
together we will survive this hellish night
to see the sun again.
